Enclustra’s Pluto XZU20 Wins Best in Show at Embedded World 2026

Enclustra’s Pluto XZU20 system-on-module (SoM) has been awarded Embedded Computing Design’s Best in Show Award in the AI & Machine Learning category at Embedded World 2026. The recognition highlights the Pluto XZU20’s role in bringing high-performance embedded intelligence to space-constrained, low-power edge applications.

Recognition Highlights Edge AI Innovation

“As AI moves closer to the point of data capture, engineers need compact platforms that deliver performance, flexibility, and efficiency at the edge,” said Phillip Bächtold, CEO of Enclustra. “With the Pluto XZU20, we are giving developers a powerful foundation for portable AI systems in applications where size, weight, and power matter.”

High-Performance Embedded Intelligence in a 30 x 30 mm Form Factor

Powered by AMD Zynq™ UltraScale+™ technology, the Pluto XZU20 combines processing performance and programmability in an ultra-compact 30 x 30 mm module. Designed for portable and embedded applications, it helps accelerate development while reducing system size, power consumption, and dependence on cloud-based processing.

The Pluto XZU20 is well-suited for demanding edge AI applications, including:

  • Robotics – Supporting low-latency processing for autonomous and intelligent systems.
  • Medical Devices – Enabling compact, secure embedded intelligence in portable healthcare equipment.
  • Industrial Control – Providing real-time processing for smart automation systems.
  • Sensing and Vision Systems – Delivering on-device image and data processing for responsive edge deployments.

By enabling real-time inference directly on the device, Pluto XZU20 helps reduce latency, lower bandwidth requirements, and improve data security for edge-based systems.

Proven for Advanced AI at the Edge

One example of the Pluto XZU20 in action is a Smart City AI Monitor demonstration by Makarena Labs. In this application, Pluto supports a digital twin simulation of a busy urban street environment, processing rendered frames live on-device with dedicated AI acceleration. The platform enables concurrent multi-model inference pipelines with the low latency required for edge deployment, while also supporting future integration with real-world camera inputs.

The Pluto XZU20 also gives developers flexibility in system design. It can be used with external AI accelerators such as Hailo, or programmed directly as an FPGA-based SoM to run AI applications without a dedicated accelerator, depending on application requirements.

Designed for Portable Integration

The Pluto XZU20 is built to address strict size, weight, and power constraints, making advanced FPGA technology more practical for widespread use in portable devices. Its compact footprint allows product developers to integrate embedded intelligence into systems where board space and power budgets are limited, without compromising performance.
